Wi-Fi Proves to Be a Boon for VoIP Services historically there has been limited doubt in anyone’s mind that the fundamental stumbling block for VoIP services over mobile phones has been the constraints of Internet functions. Wireless data platforms have so far been fairly low quality, even when being able to deliver optimal speeds at certain times.
For VoIP, the critical factor is not the speed of the Internet connection literally, but the stability and the ease of connectivity. If the network drops packets on a repeated basis, is unreliable, or takes an inordinate amount of time to connect, it is more or less unusable as a VoIP service. VoIP doesn’t take up too much bandwidth as such, but it does place a premium on dependability.
Which is why it has always executed better on Wi-Fi networks rather than those provided by the telecom carriers.
Wi-Fi matches all the requirements for VoIP such as durability and speed.
It is in fact, only a notch which follows wired Internet connections. It is becoming more and more ubiquitous in hotels, eateries, and specific in homes, one cannot rely on a Wi-Fi network always being available. If you are traveling Whether one is driving, or is at the airport, the lack of reliable Wi-Fi connectivity drives users to fall back to either the wireless data networks, or the voice minutes provided by their telecom carrier.
What is required therefore, is more ubiquitous Wi-Fi any place we are. Unfortunately Wi-Fi technology is such that it’s difficult to make a single carry far enough for it to be used by a large number of people. The only organization who has the power, money, infrastructure, and legal right to provide a huge network for public use is the fed government itself. Which is why the decision of the London government to provide free Wi-Fi for public use is so beneficial.
The Internet is a great asset. With publically reachable Wi-Fi, one can just imagine the advantages for services such as VoIP not to mention marketing and companies.
Free government wireless Internet would probably act as the latest nail in the coffin of the expired model of the telecom providers.
There’s no getting away from the fact that VoIP is the future and that new technological developments will only serve to cement that fortune. It’s only a matter of amount of time before new and top-quality networks like 4G, or other unique new technologies rise up and carry the vessel of VoIP to its destination.
